Blood Transfusion Services
BLOOD SAFETY:
Access to Safer Blood is mandated by Law. Human Blood is an essential element of human life – no substitute, categorized as ‘Drugs’ under Sec 3(b) of D&C Act 1940. The main objective is to ensure easily accessible supply of safe Blood from Voluntary non remunerated donors, free from transfusion transmitted infections and to ensure reduction in the TTI of HIV to 0.1% (During 2018 – 19 HIV infection in Voluntary Blood Donation is 0.4% in the state of Mizoram)
Blood Safety and Quality Assurance as a functional division of NACP in Mizoram SACS is manned by three officers as sanctioned by NACO viz.:
• 1 Deputy Director
• 1 Assistant Director (VBD)
• 1 Assistant Director (QM)
• 1 Divisional Assistant
• 1 Office Assistant (SBTC)
Service units comprises the following
- 1 Model Blood bank at Civil Hospital Aizawl
- 1 BCSU within the Model Blood bank
- 1 new BCSU at Major Blood Bank, Civil Hospital Lunglei
- 8 District Blood Banks in Champhai, Kolasib, Serchhip, Saiha, Lawngtlai, Mamit, Synod Hospital Durtlang and Christian Hospital Serkawn (these two functions as Charitable hospital as well)

Innovation & Good Practices
- Mass blood donation Camp conducted on Valentines Day as “Blood for your Valentine” since 2010
- Awards to group donors on World Blood Donor Day organized by AVBD
- Wrist bands to all donors
- Awards to individual donor viz. Bronze Card, Siver Card to regular blood donor.
