Total collection of Voluntary Blood Donation during the country wide Lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic in Mizoram from 25th March 2020 to June 2020 were 545 units with Total collection of Blood through voluntary donation during the year 2019 to 2020 (June) in the state were 27676 units (90.90 %).
World Blood Donor Day was observed in June 14, 2020 here in Aizawl by televising a pre-recorded television Programme due to the ongoing Lockdown imposed by the government in the state. The programme organised by Mizoram State AIDS Control Society and Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD).
Delivering a welcome speech, Chairman of the programme Dr. Lalthlengliani, Project Director, MSACS stressed the importance of World Blood Donor Day as it remains one of the 8 important Health related Days declared by WHO. She highlighted the theme for 2020 ‘Safe Blood, Saves Lives’ as particularly important in Mizoram as it promotes the youth to lead a healthy lifestyle to become regular blood donor – a life saver.
Mr. Lalrinkima, General Secretary, AVBD reported that Voluntary Blood Donation has increased to 90.90% in 2019-2020 from 86.54% (23434 units) in 2018-2019.
Popular Indian footballer Jeje Lalpekhlua and Mr. Lalnghinglova Hmar, a very well known motivational speaker and journalist in Mizoram also gave a speech on the importance of healthy and discipline lifestyle and the honorable deed of saving life by becoming a blood donor respectively.
Currently there are 11 Blood Banks in Mizoram – Aizawl, Lunglei, Saiha, Champhai, Kolasib, Mamit, Lawngtlai, Serchhip, Christian Hospital Serkawn, Synod Hospital Durtlang, ZMC Falkawn.
