Chief Minister Launched Intensified IEC Campaign for Mizoram

Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma launched Intensified IEC Campaign – India Fight Against HIV & STI for Mizoram on 28 August 2024, at Vaivakawn YMA Hall, on 28 August 2024 here in Aizawl.

In his speech, the Chief Minister noted that according to Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), there are currently PLHIV 16,217 on ART, He also highlighted the challenges in combating HIV, stating that a strong response is needed to manage and reduce the prevalence of HIV effectively. He also announced that base line investigation for PLHIV will free for all PHIV so that ART will be accessible for all PLHIV.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that as during last year out of 120 pregnant PLHIV 118 babies were delivered free from HIV. According to NACO the prevalence of HIV in Mizoram is 2.73%, which is a cause for concern. He urged for enhanced involvement from churches, NGOs, associations, and the general public to address this issue. He called for a collaborative effort to address the growing challenge and stressed that increased awareness and prevention measures are crucial.

The Intensified IEC Campaign is to be carried out during September and October in various states across India, including Mizoram. The Chief Minister stressed that this campaign aims to reach all districts and urged District Collectors to actively participate in the programme.

Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii noted that HIV awareness is crucial, and emphasized that educational institutions should play a role in spreading awareness. She also highlighted the need for continued efforts and mentioned that ongoing campaigns are critical for public health.

Pi Sangchhin Chinzah, Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, also spoke about the importance of the campaign. Dr. Lalthlengliani, Project Director of MSACS, expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the significance of ongoing initiatives in combating HIV
